CRONOS®

Key Benefits

The CRONOS®is a very capable analyser and controller and includes;

  • Up to 2 sensor inputs – the CRONOS® works with all of Pi’s sensors and many more.
  • 8 relay outputs – for alarms and process control.
  • Process control – via extremely capable PID loops.

Applications

The CRONOS® is often used in applications where the remote access capability of the CRIUS®4.0 is not required. This doesn’t mean that a CRONOS® doesn’t have the capability of control!

With full PID control, the CRONOS® is often used in application areas such as:

  • Water Treatment
  • Drinking Water
  • Waste Water
  • Pool and Spa Control
  • Industrial Water
  • Food and Drink
  • Paper and Pulp

The CRONOS® is a universal controller capable of outputting a PID control signal via an analogue (4-20mA) or a pulse width modulated relay (to control for example, an on/off pump). With the latest in communication options the CRONOS® is capable of running Profibus, Modbus or TCP/IP via Ethernet.

The ability to provide maintenance reminders is very attractive to larger users with multiple operators where it can be easy to miss scheduled maintenance.

The CRONOS® can also come in a multitude of languages making it suitable for use in any market.

Customers requiring additional functionality such as downloadable data logging or remote access via the internet should consider the CRIUS®4.0 controller.

Sensors

A CRONOS® plus Sensor equals…

  • Free Chlorine Analyser (HaloSense)
  • Total Chlorine Monitor (HaloSense)
  • Chlorine Dioxide Analyser (DioSense)
  • Ozone Monitor (OzoSense)
  • Dissolved Oxygen Meter (OxySense)
  • Suspended Solids Monitor (SoliSense®)
  • Turbidity Meter (TurbSense®)
  • Streaming Current Monitor (StreamerSense)
  • pH Analyser (pHSense)
  • ORP Analyser (ORPSense)
  • Organics Monitor (UV254Sense)
  • Online Conductivity Monitor (ConductiSense)
  • Particle Counter (CounterSense)
  • Pool and Spa Controller (AquaSense)
  • Filter Monitor (FilterSense)
  • Fluoride Monitor (FluoriSense)
  • External inputs
  • Choose from Standard Configurations or ‘Build Your Own

Options

CRONOS® from Pi is an extremely capable, yet low cost controller. It’s only limitations are that it is not capable of remote access (that requires a CRIUS®4.0), and it is restricted to 2 sensor inputs. Options available are;

  • Colour display
  • Datalogging

Chlorine Analysers For Residual Chlorine Monitoring – HaloSense

Key Benefits

  • Low purchase cost
  • Low cost of ownership
  • Reduced pH dependency (largely pH independent)
  • Stable and reliable
  • Bufferless
  • Reagentless

Many water companies want to measure free chlorine residuals without the need for chemical buffers traditionally associated with such measurements. Acetate and phosphate buffers are expensive and environmentally unfriendly. Buffer delivery systems are maintenance intensive and have fairly costly consumables and there are health and safety considerations in the handling of the acids and high disposal costs if the acid treated water is unable to be fed back into the water supply.

Amperometric cells and most polarographic probes only respond to hypochlorous acid, (HOCl). HOCl dissociates into hypochlorite (OCl–) in a pH dependent manner. This is why most chlorine monitors need acid buffers in most applications. The typical pH of water measured on a water treatment works may range from 7 to 9.2. Chemical buffering reduces the pH to between 5 and 6 and ensures that the majority of the residual chlorine is present as HOCl (see graph below).

The HaloSense Free Chlorine Sensor measures all the HOCl and the majority of the OCl– present (blue line on graph). This results in a vastly reduced pH effect and means that most chlorine monitoring applications require no buffer and no pH compensation.

Applications

  • Continuous online monitoring for residual chlorine in any water
  • Water treatment plant residual chlorine dosing control
  • Secondary chlorination free chlorine dosing control
  • Distribution monitoring
  • Cooling tower monitoring and control
  • Pasteuriser dosing control
  • Seawater chlorination control
  • Bromine monitoring in seawater
  • Food washing
  • Chloramination control

The HaloSense chlorine monitor range is particularly suited to working in sites where reliability and ease of use are most important.

Options

The following are available in the HaloSense range;

  • Online free chlorine – 0.005-2ppm, 0.05-5ppm, 0.05-10ppm, 0.05-20ppm, 0.5-200ppm
  • Online total chlorine – 0.005-0.5ppm, 0.005-2ppm, 0.05-5ppm, 0.05-10ppm, 0.05-20ppm
  • Online residual chlorine in seawater analysers (free or total bromine) – 0.005-2ppm, 0.05-5ppm, 0.05-10ppm, 0.05-20ppm
  • Online zero chlorine (designed to measure the absence of free chlorine) – 0.005-2ppm for applications such as post activated carbon and pre-RO monitoring.
